“I want to offer adolescent girls who have been forced out of their schools, a range of classes designed to support and prepare them for new educational opportunities and online learning.”
What the project wants to achieve:
-
To provide these young girls with the tools they need to adapt to the evolving world, by teaching them how to connect to the rest of the world as self-reliant, confident, and informed individuals.
Why the project being proposed:
Since the Taliban seized power in August 2021, they have banned girls from attending their high school education. Schools have remained closed for over two years, leaving adolescent girls having to find alternative solutions to be able to learn. There is even a ban on women and girls travelling outside of Afghanistan, so it is very difficult for them to travel abroad to also continue their learning.
What the project does:
One of our network members is supporting an existing learning space, where some classes are already being provided. These classes will be supplemented with first aid courses, english classes that provide certification, and computer courses. By teaching girls how to enrol in online classes and use various digital tools, the projects will help them to expand their access to online education in a safe manner. This is especially important given the increasing prevalence of online learning opportunities, and the ongoing limitations these girls face in being able to get into a classroom.
A message from the project lead:
The project is hosted in a safe space for girls, as the Taliban has not banned first aid classes. Additionally, there is a time for Quran recitation which, in the face of the authorities, provides an additional justification for bringing these girls together.
